COME OUT TO MEET ME Come out to meet me, Boy, as soon as the sun wakes up it's time, time to get to workin', Boy. So fetch your father's hat and fill your mother's eye 'cause the workin' wakes the man within the boy. Boy, I will work those hands as sure as the horses stand, until your shoes are fit for running. So ask all your questions, Boy, as long as you’re an honest boy, the workin' wakes the words within the wise. Don't get to thinkin', Boy, that what's worth knowin's known 'cause it's time, time to get to livin', Boy. So fetch your father's hat and fill your mother's eye 'cause the workin' wakes the way in which we walk.

Like I Did 03:25
LIKE I DID We were best friends when you still wore overalls just like I did. I'm watchin' you playin' in a sandbox by the school just like I did. It won't be long before you wake up one day a man just like I did, a man, just like I am. It don't last long, that's why I'm takin' note for us both, for me when you're gone all grown, a man. You're whinin' about havin' to brush your teeth just like I did. Well it's hard to take ya seriously when you're stand there sportin' those cartoon underwear just like I did. It won't be long before you wake up one day a man just like I did; until then, you can stay here with your dad just like I did, a dad, just like I am. It don't last long, that's why I'm takin' note for us both, for me when you're gone It don't last long, that's why I'm takin' note for us both, for me when you're gone all grown, a man.

Better 03:13
BETTER Hey there Boy, Don't you turn your back on me. I'm not finished and I'm not done can't you see that I want you to do well and I don't want to see you fail. Well Fame is a fickle thing you can do without; she'll let you in, she'll sell you out. I've seen enough to know and I'm tryin' to help you grow. You know better. Have the courage to say yes. You know better. Have the courage to say no when you need to. Here's the thing 'bout wondarin' 'round, you'll never know until it hunts you down. Now I'm not teachin' and I'm not preachin' anymore, I hope you find what it is you're lookin' for. You know better. Have the courage to say yes. You know better. Have the courage to say no when you need to.

A RIVER CARRIES ON On a rooftop black as night, I listened to the noise travelin' alongside the breeze. Been fightin' for the longest time, the snake in the tree and the past that shaded me. We all know that a pond will spoil. We all know that a pond will spoil. We all know that a river carries on. First steps down a garden line, I can recall growin' alongside the weeds. Been fightin' for the longest time, that candle light and the roots that crowded me. We all know that a pond will spoil. We all know that a pond will spoil. We all know that a river carries on...

NOBODY GIVES IT TIME Hello, How ya been? It gets longer everyday and I want to talk to you all night, but I don't know where to start. Everybody's rollin’ up street to find their next connection and nobody wants ta give ya time. Everybody's rollin' up street to find that next sensation and nobody wants ta give it time. There are always things to do and excuses that enslave you. So I've been walking in the evenin’s 'cause I don't know what I might find. Everybody's rollin' up street to find their next connection and nobody wants ta gives ya time. Everybody's rollin' up street to find that next sensation and nobody wants ta give it time. In the morning without a thing to do I want to wake up n' spin into your bouquet of curls.

Past the house down by the road, where the wind is whippin' the seed I've sown, I've been keepin', my secrets are layed in the grass. Don't go diggin' in places you don't belong. Your focus will become you. Yeah, your focus will become you. Past the house down by the road, where the fields are there overgrown, I've been waitin' for a green thumb to bail it away. Don't go tellin' a story that ends in a lie. Your focus will become you. Yeah, your focus will become you. One day, you will see that the meaning is made by you. You will see that you don't need to follow anyone. Past the house down by the road, where father's eyes are growin' old, I've been tryin' to follow the footsteps he left, but I've been thinkin' that his love is the meaning he gave. Your focus will become you. Yeah, your focus will become you. One day, you will see that the meaning is made by you. You will see that you don't need to follow anyone.

ENJOY A GOOD THING Your mantra's got you workin' down to dust, fulfillin' the dreams of somebody else. Storms a' comin', storms a' comin'. Storms a' comin', storms a' comin'. We all need to enjoy a good thing. Enjoy a good thing while you've got it. Enjoy a good thing. Your mantra's got you convertin' to words filled with doubt, forgettin' the hope that brought you here. Storms a' comin', storms a' comin'. Storms a' comin', storms a' comin'. We're all going to... You're gonna wake up again. You're gonna wake up again, yeah. You're gonna wake up again. Your mantra's got you throwin' coin into a well, expectin' more than you put in. Storms a' comin', storms a' comin'. Storms a' comin', storms a' comin'. We all need to enjoy a good thing 'cause you're gonna wake up again. Enjoy a good thing while you've got it. Enjoy a good thing.

I WON'T LET YOU DOWN Shut out the lights and open your window. Let the sun follow its course, let me drink the wine, let me drink the whine. Oooh... Let the rain fill up the room 'n come cover me with your body or else I may catch cold or else I may catch a cold. Oooh... If everythin' is a consequence of a prior, then choice is nothin' but blissful perception; Lover, I won't let you down. Lover, I won't let you down, no. Oooh...

SOMETHING MORE Come on now it's gettin’ late, the fire will burn out if you don't feed it and the smoke will smother a dream. And a man that's hatin' is a man that's fakin' something more; and a man that's hurtin' is a man that's yearnin' for something more; and a man that's wantin' is a man that's huntin' for something more; and a man that's healin' is a man that's feelin' something more. Moments come and go so feel them, the warmth comes from being closer and perspective is a metaphor. And a man that's thinkin' is a man that's linkin' to something more; and a man that's believin' is a man that's concievin' something more; and a man that's hikin' is a man that's climbin' to something more; and a man that's fightin' the chain that's bitin' is something more. Somethin' If you're looking for the truth, then that's where you'll find it. Danger is real, but fear is a choice, so if you wanna be somethin', then just believe and become it 'cause a wise young man is sowin' the seed.

about

An album inspired by Vincent Van Goghs painting (First Steps, after Millet) and themes of coming-of-age nostalgia. A young man looks back on his childhood to understand his humble roots and explore values that will inevitably manifest his future.

My grandmother, Sue Szamecki, actually painted the artwork for the album cover!

Resta (Elton John, Duran Duran, Collective Soul) and multi-Grammy winner Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, Shania Twain).
